Charles "Charlie" Haygood
Funeral Time: Monday, May 23rd at 2:30PM
Charles “Charlie” Hampton Haygood, 84, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on May 16, 2022, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 19, 1937, to Clyde and Ada (Tinsley) Haygood in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, where he graduated high school and began an eight-year stint in the Army National Guard. Charlie earned a Bachelor of Administration degree from Western Carolina University in 1959 where he met his wife of 63 years. Upon graduation he began his career with the JC Penney Company in Ashville, North Carolina and worked his way from an entry level position to District Manager in Virginia, retiring in 1998 after serving one company for 38 years. He enjoyed golf and fishing with friends while his greatest joys centered around time with his family. He lived his life with love for his family, respect for his friends and with a larger than life smile and dignity. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington Kentucky. Charlie is survived by his loving spouse, Catherine I. Haygood, his daughter Cynthia L. Horne (Christopher), and eight grandchildren: Ryan C. Horne, Isaac H. Horne, Allen A. Horne and S. Greer Horne of Jessamine County, Kentucky, Rebecca C. Haygood of Toronto, Canada, Riley M. Haygood, Peyton A. Haygood and Jacob L. Haygood of Bowling Green, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his son Mark A. Haygood.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 23, 2022, at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road from 12:30 to 2:30 pm with a service to follow at 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Friends and family will gather May 27, 2022, at Westhampton Cemetery, Richmond Virginia where Mr. Haygood will be laid to rest at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Haygood’s name to the Virginia State Police Emergency Relief Fund, 6944 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond Virginia 23225.
