Ruth Bennett
Funeral Time: Monday, March 26th at 12:00PM Ruth Vivian Sherrod Bennett, 83, daughter of the late Ruth Foster Snapp and Dairyll Snapp passed away in the care of the Hospice Center at St. Joseph Hospital on March 22, 2012. Born in Lexington on May 13th, 1928, she is the widow of Stanley Young Sherrod (53 years) and Dock Bennett, Sr. She formerly served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent at Northern Heights Christian Church for over 25 years. She is currently a member of Broadway Christian Church. After raising two sons she began a career as a teacher of business procedures in the State of Kentucky Ceta Program, a curriculum that was developed to train welfare recipients for office positions. When she retired, her program was deemed the most successful in the state of Kentucky, with an annual placement percentage of well over 90%. Enjoying her retirement she and her husband Stanley, wintered at their home in Okeechobee, Florida for many years. She is survived by two sons, Gayle Y. (Connie) Sherrod of Winchester, and James S. (Barbara) Sherrod of Lexington; two grandchildren, Lisa Sherrod Walsh of Peewee Valley, and Scott Sherrod of Louisville; three great-granddaughters, Kyla and Elaina Walsh, and Paige Sherrod; her sister, Geraldine (Rev. Charles) Carter of Lexington; two sister-in-laws, Anna Snapp of Stuart, FL, and Martha B. Strieff of Lexington; a special friend, Heather Vanderpool, as well as numerous nieces and nephews from Alabama, Beijing, Shanghai, Texas, California, Tennessee, Florida, and Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her brother Dairell J. Snapp II. Funeral services will be held 12pm Mon at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main Street by Reverend Charles Carter. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sun from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
