Funeral Time: Friday, July 30th at 10:00AM
Manford R. Hughes, 84, husband of Lavina Addison Hughes, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2010 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born December 23, 1925 in Delaplain, Kentucky to the late Herman and Tina Hughes. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1944 and served as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. In 1985 he retired as Chief Deputy Clerk of the United States District Court (Eastern District). He was a 51 year member of The Grand Lodge of Kentucky, Lexington Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. He was a member of Arlington Christian Church where he served as Elder Emeritus, sang in the Chancel Choir and was a member of the Beacon Class. Manford married Lavina Addison on March 28, 1959 and had one son, Brian Addison. Manford loved his family, especially his two grandsons, Addison and Ethan Hughes. His greatest pleasure was spending time with all his family and friends. He will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched for his gifts of love and laughter. Manford always wanted to stay busy, so for 20 years after retirement he framed pictures at a shop in his home. He loved to travel and took several cruises, bus tours, one rail trip across Canada and many car trips with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Lavina, he is survived by his son, Brian (Nedda) Hughes; grandsons, Addison Hunter and Ethan Marks Hughes; sister, Virginia Ratliff; and brothers, Lawrence Hughes, Wayne (Betty) Hughes and John (Carolyn) Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Cravens and Kathleen Hughes. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. by Rev. Kristen Bentley with burial following at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Larry Brown, Paul Durbin, John Wayne Hughes, Al Nevius, Lonnie Jackson and Bob Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Addison, Paul McDaniel, Carl Moses and Edward Moss. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the administration and staff of Lexington Country Place for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Arlington Christian Church, 1206 North Limestone, Lexington, KY 40505 or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
