Vera Krieger
KRIEGER, Vera, 98, of Lexington, died on May 23, 2010 at UK Samaritan Hospital, following a short illness. She was born April 12, 1912 in the Ukraine, and emigrated to the United States with her family when she was a child. She lived first in Philadelphia and then in New York City, where she spent most of her adult life. She moved to Lexington in 1982 to be near her family. She was an avid international traveler, and a lover of opera, dance and theater. She was also an active participant in the UK Donovan Scholars program for several years. Above all, she was a champion of the human spirit. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bill Cohen; her grandson and his wife, David and Susan Cohen and her beloved great-granddaughter, Maddy; her brother, Herman Winer, and his children, and a grandniece and grandnephew.
