Harry Turner Taylor
Harry Turner Taylor, 90, of Lexington, died Jan. 25, 2010 at his Hartland Hills home. He was the son of the late Maria Turner and Harry Taylor and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva House Taylor, and two brothers, William K. Taylor and John L. Taylor. He was born in Cuba and spent his youth in the British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, and Colombia, South America where his father managed sugarcane plantations. He was a graduate of Cynthiana High School where he excelled in athletics. He attended the University of Kentucky where he lettered in football and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. As a staff sergeant in WWII, he served in the European Theater and Battle of the Bulge. He was a businessman in Cynthiana, a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church, and the Elks Club. He served on the School Board which consolidated the city and county schools in Harrison County. He and his wife Geneva were founding members of the Cynthiana Country Club and avid golfers. He enjoyed bird hunting and was accompanied by many canine companions over the years. He was inducted into the Harrison County Football Hall of Fame in 2005. After retirement, he moved to Lexington and actively followed UK sports as a K-Man, and was a great support to his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved children, a son, Harry Taylor, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; a daughter Laura Curiel (Julian) of Lexington; a dear sister Rosemary T. Booher; brother-in-law Taylor House (Sue); granddaughters, Julia and Catherine; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4-7 pm Thurs. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Rd. There will be private services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harrison Co.
