James Taylor Botkin
Funeral Time: Saturday, October 8th at 1:00PM James Taylor Botkin, age 83, died Tuesday, October 4th at Daisy Hill Memory unit in Versailles, Kentucky. He was a long time resident of Fayette County. James graduated from Lafayette High School in 1957 where he was a member of the Beta Club and president of Future Farmers of America. Jim honorably served his country in the United States Army. He went to work for Southwestern Tobacco Company in 1957 until his retirement at age 58. He then worked part time for Phillip Morris Tobacco Company for ten years. He had a lifelong love of landscaping and upon retirement he enjoyed working at his church’s Vacation Bible School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Cable Botkin and William Lee Botkin, and his brothers, Ronald Lee Botkin and Thomas Earl Botkin. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet Botkin, two children, Doug Botkin (Karen) and Carol Botkin Lynn (Dwain). His grandchildren are Zack Botkin (Mira), Daniel Botkin, Bryce Johnson, Samantha Prosser (Jake), Jacqueline Van Kammen (Cameron), and one great-grandchild, Elias Prosser. He had the joy and honor of being Grandpa Jim to Jackson Lawrence. Services will be held at Pisgah Presbyterian Church, 710 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, KY on Saturday, October 8th. Family and friends may call at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. followed immediately by a brief burial ceremony in the church cemetery. After the burial, all are invited to join the family for refreshments at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Property Committee of Pisgah Presbyterian Church, 710 Pisgah Pike, Versailles, KY 40383.
