Mr. Jon Roger Maki
Jon Roger Maki: 4/29/1940 – 8/2/2022
Jon departed this earth on August 2nd, 2022 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Duluth, Minnesota to Adolph and Martha Maki he was extremely proud of his Finnish heritage. He loved Lake Superior, or the “big lake” as he called it, and enjoyed watching the large ships come into port. In his youth he worked as a deck hand in the summers.
He has a sister Cheryl Sutton and stepson F. Curtis Moore. Another sister Barb Anderson, and a stepdaughter Ashley Moore are deceased. He and wife Carla resided in Lexington.
Jon graduated from the University of Minnesota and received his doctorate from Michigan State University. He thought teaching was a noble profession and taught biological sciences at Eastern Kentucky University for 31 years. He cared deeply for his students.
Jon loved the outdoors where he could search for and observe insect species. His specialty was Entomology. He loved reading and studying The War Between The States. Other pleasures were cooking and fishing. He had a dog and two cats who adored him.
Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Vanunu and his staff, the staff at Northpoint Healthcare Center, and Elijah Harkless for their help and support during his illness. A private family burial will be held at Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested to Lexington Humane Society.
